Screen Recording • Beta • Desktop web

Record your screen. Turn each step into an editable scene.

Capture a software walkthrough in short, meaningful steps instead of wrestling with one long recording. Review the session, add the steps you want, and keep editing each result on Scribe's canvas and timeline.

Two recorded software walkthrough steps added as editable scenes in Scribe Animator
Real product capture: each accepted recording step has become a normal scene with an editable video object.
Why it matters

Tutorial footage should remain flexible after capture.

A long recording makes every correction, annotation, camera move, and narration change depend on the same clip. Scribe's step-based recorder gives each task or idea its own scene so the explanation can keep evolving.

How it works

Capture first, then use the full explainer workflow

01

Choose the source

Start from Video → Record screen, then use the browser-owned chooser to select a tab, window, or full screen. Microphone is optional; shared audio depends on the browser and selected source.

02

Mark meaningful steps

Choose New Step at a task or idea boundary. Scribe finalizes that playable segment and immediately starts the next one over the already-authorized capture stream.

03

Review before inserting

Inspect the actual step list, duration, and file size. Add the session only when the captured material is ready to become project scenes.

04

Get one scene per step

Every accepted step creates one scene containing a normal Video-on-Canvas object—not a flattened or separate tutorial format.

05

Explain the exact moment

Trim and split the video, annotate it, use Freeze and Explain, choreograph camera moves, add voiceover, and organize the explanation with StoryBeats.

06

Preview and export

Play the same scene timeline the audience will see, then use Scribe’s normal browser export workflow for the finished explainer.

Designed-in boundaries

Capture stays explicit and local-first.

  • Screen recording is available in the Desktop web editor when the browser provides display-capture and media-recording APIs.
  • The browser owns the tab, window, or screen chooser and its permissions; Scribe cannot bypass that decision.
  • Microphone access is separate and optional. Shared or system audio is not available for every browser and capture source.
  • Recorded media remains local until the normal signed-in project save workflow uses cloud storage.
  • Scribe works with footage you record or import; it does not download social-platform video URLs.
